Effects of Cocaine and Nicotine on the Brain

Nicotine is a poisonous drug that is derived in the tobacco plant, used in medicine and as an insecticide. It is one of the most heavily used addictive drugs. Example of nicotine drug include tobacco. There are the medical effects of both cocaine and nicotine that have an impact on the human brain. It has been documented that one of the acute effects of such stimulant like cocaine and nicotine is brain damage. It has created much concern to the medics too on the usage of the stimulants since they interfere with the reasoning capacity of the users. This tends to compromise their health hence making them harmful. Cocaine on the other hand is also another stimulant that really has diverse effects. Cocaine exerts its local aesthetic actions by blocking the conduction of sensory impulses within nerve cells. This shows the severe impact of abusing the drug. Whitney Houston: Cocaine and Heart Disease

In March 2012, the Los Angeles County Coroner's Office reported that Whitney Houston's official cause of death was accidental drowning. Cocaine use and heart disease were contributing factors in her death. The coroner believes that cocaine use caused Whitney to suffer heart problems (she already had heart disease), which led her to become unconscious. Bruises on her forehead, chest, and upper lip suggest that she fell into the bathtub, where she drowned. The six-time Grammy winner also had marijuana, the prescription drugs Xanax and Flexeril, and the over-the-counter medicine Benadryl in her bloodstream, though the coroner does not believe they played a role in her death. Cocaine Can Lead to Scary Side Effects Cocaine is a stimulant-a class of drugs that elevate mood, boost feelings of well-being and euphoria, and increase energy and alertness. Stimulants make a person feel good by increasing the amount of dopamine in the brain, but they also have some nasty side effects. Shor...

Cocaine - How it Works on the Brain

Cocaine elevates the amount of dopamine, noradrenaline and serotonin which are all pleasure elevating molecules. Simply put the brain is so flooded with these molecules that it does not know how to respond to highly elevated and unnatural levels. The cocaine also increases blood pressure and heart rate. These all combined give the whirl, or the high as it is usually called. Sometimes antidepressants (cocaine derivative) are prescribed to help those who need stimulation, such as ADHD, obesity and narcolepsy. Often many people who are in these scenarios' without doctors help, and others who also desire a stimulant, use illegal cocaine and become addicted because their usage is not regulated. Cocaine usage elevates the amount of dopamine, the main reuptake inhibitor, and this elevated amount of unnatural levels into the nucleus accumbens leaves the brain feeling depraved. The continued use then causes the brain to change it's neuron levels to have less dopamine receptors and ther...

Cocaine Side Effects - What to Expect

Cocaine has many side effects running from visible to invisible and both inside the body and also outside the body, but cause severe damage with long term effects. There are also several mental and emotional side effects associated with cocaine use, and there are also many negative relational effects too. We will focus on the physical side effects. Damage to the brain is one of the most detrimental side effects caused by use of cocaine. With the spike in blood pressure from the hit of cocaine and the constriction of blood vessels, the reduced flow of oxygenated blood causes a deterioration of the blood cells in the brain. The lack of oxygen also slows down the regeneration of brain cells and also often diminishes the ability of concentration and memory. Since cocaine reduces the flow of oxygenated blood and also constricts the blood vessels rising the blood pressure, it can often lead to a heart attack. Any heart attack will leave permanent damage to the heart, and reduce vital fu...

Ever since its discovery, it has destroyed many lives all through history due to its addictive properties.
